Today was my last day in the ICU. I had a terrific time working there, but I worked harder than I've ever had to before. The hours wear you out, the complexity of the patients' problems taxes your brain, reasoning with dysfunctional families is like pounding your head against brick wall, and taking care of dying patients is always difficult (even when you get a shout out in the Beacon Journal).

Anyway, to celebrate the end of our most excellent month we were taken out to lunch yesterday and today (once each by the two different groups of intensivists). Yesterday we ate at Virtues (a new restaurant opened on the first floor of the new Traeger ICU building at ACH) and today we ate at the Red Robin in North Canton. I ate the chicken fingers (just kidding). Apparently it says something when both groups of attendings want to take us out to lunch. The CCU team didn't get any lunch at all (suckers) and had to cover for us during our journey to Canton (suckers).

Other than that, I did a little bit of running last week. I'm considering running the Akron Marathon at the end of September despite the fact that I'm horribly out of shape. What the hell, I'll get a free pair of shoes out of it. It's a hilly course judging by the course map and elevation map, but not as bad as Big Sur. Hopefully if I can get some good training in this month I'll be able to handle a 300 foot climb with aplomb.

As you can tell, I rocked the SAT vocab section.

I was filling up gas at my local Sohio station when I noticed a sign in the window which said "PROTECTED BY GLOCK". I sleep better at night knowing that my ICE COLD BEER is kept safe under the watch of a 9 mm firearm. I'll work on getting you a picture of the window, I laughed out loud and then promptly hopped in my car and tried to get away before the jackers jacked.

I'm writing this update posthaste (I'm telling you, I rocked it) because I received an email yesterday from Madhu:
"u need to blog... more... lol"
Needless to say, I was taken aback.*

That's pretty much all that's going on around here. I move on to night float for the month of September (I start Sunday night). Until then, I'm going to head to the City of Big Shoulders and have some fun. Of course, college football kicks off this weekend, making tomorrow is the first Scarlet & Gray Friday of the year. The Bucks are playing Northern Illinois in their season opener. What better place to watch the action (outside of the 'shoe, naturally) than Northern Illinois!

GO BUCKS!

*In reality, he used proper spelling and grammar with no l33tsp3ak involved. We shall leave that garbage to the "Web 2.0" script kiddies.

Useless Knowledge: The only football teams that Ohio State has played but never beaten are Case Western Reserve University and The University of Texas.

hells bells, I've seen those signs before - almost bought one. And what fun is it to tip off someone that you're carrying?

Lastly, Glock sells a full line of pistols chambered to 9mm, 10mm, .40 ACP, and .45 ACP calibers; not just 9mm. Me, I prefer Ohio-made firearms, so I avoid giving money to the Austrians.

I have read "Eats Shoots and Leaves" and I found it hilarious. That being said, the New Yorker subsequently ran a story highlighting all the grammatical errors in the book. The moral -- if you're going to write a snide book about grammar, you'd better be sure yours is pitch perfect.

Imagine my horror when I saw what you attributed to me. Thank you for the asterisk. It made me laugh and laugh.
